Break

Tiffany’s Break reminds me of Nestle’s Kit Kat.

The name was reminiscent of Kit Kat’s famous tagline, ‘Have a break, have a Kit Kat.’ And the concept of crispy wafer fingers in milk chocolate was also similar to Kit Kat’s.

But that’s pretty much where the similarities end. The wafer itself wasn’t anywhere close. The coating was way too thin and broke off too easily. The chocolate was ‘sweetish’ but tasted nothing like real chocolate.

Break will do if you’re looking for a cheap alternative. Otherwise, there are better chocolate snacks out there.

Tim Tam

A friend who’s working in Australia has been raving about Tim Tam for a while now, but I just didn’t see what the fuss was all about…..until I tried one. And it was absolutely lovely!

Tim Tam is two chocolate biscuits joined together by a fluffy creamy filling, then coated in a thin layer of milk chocolate. The biscuits blend so well with the chocolate and filling that they actually have more of a chocolate rather than a biscuit aftertaste.

There’s a nice crunch to the biscuits, and a hint of caramel too.

The two flavors available at my local store were Original and Chewy Caramel. I got the Original since it was on sale. Haha. The regular price was $3.99 but it was selling for $2.99.

There are 11 biscuits in a pack. I was sort of expecting an even number count though. Perfect when sharing with someone. Anyhoo…

To complete the Tim Tam experience, I also did the traditional Tim Tam Slam. It’s da bomb!

Basically, Tim Tam Slam is sucking a hot drink with a Tim Tam and shoving the biscuit in your mouth before it falls apart. First, you bite off the opposite corners. Submerge one end in your drink, then suck the drink through the biscuit (pretty much as you would with a straw). Once you feel the drink, quickly put the Tim Tam in your mouth.

The hot drink softens the biscuits and melts the filling and coating, all of which ‘explodes’ in your mouth!

It’s not a pretty sight, I must warn. And messy too. But it’s soo good!

Rich, scrumptious, tasty little goodies from the land down under, Tim Tam is definitely a must-try for every chocolate lover!

Lindt Lindor 60% Cacao Extra Dark Chocolates

Among all the ‘glittering’ chocolates in the lovely Lindt store, one item that caught my eye was Lindor Extra Dark Chocolate. With its predominantly black wrapping, it was so somber-looking!

However, I soon realized why…..it was 60% cacao chocolate! Nicee!

I tried it as soon as I got home.

The truffle was a light chocolate ball coated in dark chocolate, and it had a faint cocoa scent.

Loved the contrast between the inner and outer chocolates! The shell was dry and ‘crunchy’, while the filling was velvety soft and creamy!

The cocoa taste was mainly in the coating. The center had more of a milky undertone, which easily offset the dark chocolate flavor. Hence, the aftertaste was that of a light vanilla-like sweetness and almost none of the cocoa bitterness!

Lindor 60% Cacao Extra Dark Chocolate was truly a divine truffle. Its textures and flavors were wonderfully-balanced. Pricey, but worth it. 😀

Lindt Petits Desserts

Lindt Petits Desserts was an attractive box of seven chocolates shaped in the form of the dessert they represent — tiramisu, meringue, creme brulee, millefeuille, lemon tart, macaroon, and brownie.

The first one I ate was the tiramisu, one of my favorite desserts. And it was exquisite! It looked and tasted just like a real tiramisu! There was so much flavor — milk chocolate, coffee, liquor, cocoa, cream, dark chocolate biscuit…all in such a small piece of chocolate! Really awesome!

Creme brulee was another amazing chocolate. It was a smooth rich creamy filling in a thin milk chocolate cup. It also had tiny bits of caramel on top, which gave a nice sweetness to its taste and crunch to its texture.

The meringue was a hazelnut praline with meringue bits covered in milk chocolate. The hint of lemon in its creamy filling was delightful!

Milk chocolate was dominant in the macaroon, although it also had a creamy coconut taste.

The millefeuille was a fairly plain but pleasant milk chocolate praline. Decent but nothing great.

I loved the brownie — a dark chocolate with nuts. Very rich. Very dense. Very chocolatey.

Last but not the least was the lemon tart. Creamy, smooth, tangy lemon filling in a milk chocolate cup topped with little pices of meringue…..Yum!

As a whole, Lindt Petits Desserts was quite impressive. Expensive, yes, and insanely so if I may add. But it was worth a try.

Nestle Turtles

It was a chocoholic friend who introduced me to the iconic Nestle Turtles. It was her absolute favorite, ergo, I had to try it too! haha

She gave me a large tin box containing 24 unwrapped candies as a present last Christmas. Yep, last Christmas! (It was one of the last surviving chocolates that I got!) Interesting how one can find Turtles packaged in tin boxes during the Christmas season, and none after that…

‘Why are they called Turtles,’ I asked my friend. She looked at me incredulously and replied,’Look at them! Don’t they resemble turtles?’

Uh, not really! I could barely make out the head, legs and tail. At first glance they looked more like irregular-shaped discs to me.

Appearance aside, the candy had a sweet milky smell, and tasted that way too. The milk chocolate coating was the first thing I tasted, and it was pretty much standard Nestle milk chocolate quality.

Next flavor that came was that of the generous gooey caramel that had been imbedded with the pecans. It had a nice mapley taste, which thankfully wasn’t overly sweet.

I loved the pecans! They tasted ‘fresh’ and added crunch to the chocolate. Wish more pieces of them had been added though, to match the thickness of the caramel.

Overall, Turtles are a pretty good confectionery and are oddly addictive! There’s room for improvement,  but at the same time, they’re worth a try.
