Mars

When I want an energy boost, a quick snack or a sweet dessert, a Mars bar is what I get. It’s sugary, it’s chewy, and it’s filling.

Mars is made up of fluffy nougat topped with a layer of gooey caramel and coated in milk chocolate.

For me, the fun size pieces (13 g) are just perfect! Anything bigger than that tends to overwhelm with sweetness.

Although there are better chocolates out there, I buy a box of Mars once in a while. They’re decent and affordable.

Mars bars in Canada are peanut-free too!

Lindt Excellence 85% Cacao

85% is the highest cacao content in a chocolate I’ve had so far, and it was pure intensity!

Wrapped in foil inside a predominantly black and white paper packaging, Lindt Excellence 85% Cacao exudes a strong scent of lush dark chocolate sans any sweetness when unwrapped.

As expected, it had a deep earthy taste. There was some bitterness to it but it was minimal. In fact (and I never thought I’d say this), the full-bodied cacao flavor of the chocolate was actually pleasing to the palate!

Compared to the creamier varieties, it had a drier texture and didn’t really melt as easily; yet despite that, the smoothness was still there.

This bar is surely one of the best dark chocolates out there!

Kinder Surprise

A chocolate. A surprise. And a toy. How much more fun can chocolates be?!?

Kinder Surprise is a popular chocolate treat and a well-loved brand by Italian company Ferrero. It is basically a chocolate egg with a small toy. On special occasions, the eggs are themed —– for example, there’s the Kinder Surprise Maxi at Easter and the Kinder Christmas Ball (at Christmas).

Believe it or not, I had one for the first time in my life only earlier this year! We didn’t have this back home, and the reason I bought one was because I got curious about what the fuss over the ‘illegal contraband’ was about…..

It was all over the news that a Kinder Surprise was seized from a Canadian woman entering the US. Apparently, the egg is banned  in the US as it poses a choking hazard to children (according to the US Consumer Products Safety Commission).

On the contrary, the case isn’t so here and Kinder Surprise is widely available in the country. According to Health Canada, there is little chance it could do harm since little kids don’t have the dexterity to open the plastic egg (that holds the toy).

Going back to Kinder Surprise……there was hardly any chocolate in it. The shell was composed of two thin layers of creamy milk chocolate —–  dark on the outside and white in the inside. Its taste was surprisingly quite exquisite! The egg revealed a small yellow plastic capsule, and within that capsule was the surprise toy.

I got a little green one, which wasn’t really all that interesting. I plan to buy some more though. Who knows, I might get a delightful toy this time!

Pocky Almond Crush

A popular Japanese confectionery, Pocky is one of my all-time favorite snacks!

They come in many different flavors, but only a number are available in Canada. My favorite so far is Pocky Almond Crush.

Almond Crush are biscuits sticks drenched in chocolate and crushed almond pieces.  The chocolate is rich, smooth and creamy; and the almond pieces are crunchy. The almonds provide texture to the biscuit, though they sometimes tend to overpower the chocolate (which is forgiveable considering the name! haha).

Thoroughly chocolatey and nutty, Pocky Almond Crush is an awesome afternoon treat!

Lindt Excellence Extra Creamy Milk Chocolate

This bar came highly recommended by a friend who’s not really into chocolate, so without a doubt I thought it must be really good!

The cardboard box wrapping was plain and simple —– predominantly white and blue in color, with a Lindt chocolate square below a milk churn.

The bar inside was, as with other Lindt Excellence chocolates, wrapped in silver foil. As I peeled off the foil, the rich and creamy aroma of 10 big blocks of chocolate was immediately present, making it all the more difficult to resist taking a bite.

As soon as the chocolate was in my mouth, it began to melt away smoothly. Its taste was extremely rich and creamy (so why am I not surprised?!? LOL). And I loved the fact that it didn’t stick to my teeth or left me thirsty unlike some other brands.

Lindt Excellence Extra Creamy Milk Chocolate didn’t disappoint. It speaks for itself as it is truly an extra creamy and excellent chocolate. A whole bar is a bit too overwhelming for me though. Just a square or two per sitting does the trick.
